Multicurrency
Multicurrency applies when the ticket currency (the currency of the store where the customer is buying) differs from the customer's registration currency (the currency of the country where they enrolled in the loyalty program).
The platform automatically detects this and marks the transaction as international: true in the response.
Pre-requirementsβ
Two configurations must be in place before multicurrency works:
| Setting | Where to configure | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Score Exchange per currency | Loyalty β Cashback β New Cashback | Defines how many currency units equal 1 point for a given currency (e.g. EUR: 0.01 means 1pt = β¬0.01) |
| Currency Conversion Rate | Configuration β Loyalty β Conversions | Exchange rate between the ticket currency and the customer's registration currency (e.g. GBP β EUR = 1.17) |
How the effective score exchange is calculatedβ
When a customer buys in a foreign currency, the engine computes an adjusted score exchange that normalises the points award to the customer's home currency:
effective_score_exchange = score_exchange(registration_currency) Γ conversion_rate(ticket_currency β registration_currency)
This ensures the customer earns the same real monetary value in points regardless of which country they buy in.
Worked example β EUR customer buying in GBPβ
Setup:
- Customer registered in Spain β registration currency: EUR
- Purchase made in a UK store β ticket currency: GBP
score_exchangefor EUR:0.01(1 pt = β¬0.01)- Conversion rate GBP β EUR:
1.17
Calculation:
effective_score_exchange = 0.01 Γ 1.17 = 0.0117
A ratio campaign configured at 1 pt per GBP on a Β£100 purchase:
raw_points = 100 / 0.0117 β 8,547 pts
The customer earns 8,547 points, equivalent to β¬85.47 in their EUR wallet β the same value they would have received buying Β£100 worth at home (adjusted for the exchange rate).
The rules evaluated are those of the store's country (UK rules in this example), not the customer's registration country. Rules scoped to Spain will not fire even if the customer is Spanish.
Cashback redemption across countriesβ
When a customer with a foreign registration currency redeems cashback in a different country, the same adjusted score exchange is used to calculate the monetary value of the discount applied at checkout.
The cashback_score_desired field works identically to the domestic flow β the engine transparently handles the conversion.
Cross-country usage summaryβ
