Triggers

Triggers are signals that fire loyalty mechanics outside of a purchase or a custom event. They represent platform-managed moments β€” such as a customer's birthday, a new registration, or a manual grant by an operator β€” and can award points, activate campaigns, or update challenge progress just like cart events can.

Trigger Types

TriggerWhen it firesNotes
After purchase (after_create_activity)A cart is submitted via the Streaming APIThe primary loyalty signal; covered in Cart Events
BirthdayEvaluated daily β€” fires on the customer's date of birthRecommend configuring a win limit of once per year
Account sign-up (after_create_a_profile)A new customer registers in the loyalty programContact your Customer Success Manager to enable
ReferralA customer successfully refers a new enrolleeBoth referrer and referred customer can receive rewards; contact your CSM to enable
ManualAn operator grants points directly from the customer profileFixed amount only; requires the Actions tab in the Customer profile

For non-purchase behavioral signals defined by your company (app activity, fitness tracking, survey completion, etc.), see Custom Events.

How It Works

  1. A platform event occurs (birthday reached, new registration, referral confirmed, or manual action by an operator).
  2. The platform maps the event to the corresponding trigger moment.
  3. All active points campaigns registered on that moment are evaluated against the customer's profile.
  4. Matching campaigns award points, update challenge progress, or fire any other configured effect.
  5. The transaction appears in the customer's Points / Wallet tab as a trigger entry.

Manual Trigger

The Manual trigger lets operators grant points directly to a single customer from the Owner App β€” useful for customer service corrections, goodwill gestures, or one-off promotions.

To use it:

  1. Go to Customers β†’ Customers and open the customer profile.
  2. Click the Actions tab.
  3. Select Points Grant, choose the loyalty rule linked to the Manual trigger, and enter the amount.

For bulk grants to a segment or via CSV upload, see the Customer Actions page.
